Fly Through Many Different Skies In Virtual Reality.

Blueshift is a virtual reality flying game where you can use skis, rockets and so forth to navigate environments from cityscapes to Mars. There's no storyline, just you, the world and flight.

Flying The All-Too-Friendly Skies

The game uses a very strong method of fluid motion that helps prevent motion sickness, even though it provides some very fast ways to fly. Individual experiences may differ, but overall Blueshift excels in the actual experience of flying. Other parts, such as changing maps, can be a little kludgier. On the other hand, there's not that much to do with the power of flight: the game includes guns, but nothing to do with them, and there really aren't any set goals, either. For some players, this might be a positive, but the "content" here is largely the landscape and flight modes.

A Worthwhile Jaunt

Overall, Blueshift is worth trying for anyone who makes the experience of flying. It does what it sets out to do very well, and the lack of auxiliary features and content is arguably just a part of its strong focus on simulating the experience of flying. It's particularly noteworthy if you experience motion sickness, but even without that, it's a competitive way to fly in VR.

PROS

  • Multiple modes of flight
  • Well-done motion

CONS

  • Little content
  • A few design mistakes
